Dermal Fillers in London for Volume, Lift and Definition
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels injected beneath the skin to replace lost volume, soften the creases and shadows that volume loss leaves behind, and rebuild facial contour. Placed well they lift and restructure the shape of the face. Placed badly they simply add weight to it. Treatment at Faciem suits people who want the proportions of their own face restored, not altered, and every plan is assessed and injected by Dr Prasad after a face-to-face consultation.
Nothing is injected on a first impression. Filler treatment here follows a medical consultation, a review of your history and a full account of every aesthetic treatment you have had before — because mixing products without knowing what is already in place is how complications happen.

About the Treatment
What Are Dermal Fillers and How Do They Work?
What is actually being injected, what it does to facial structure, and why the assessment beforehand matters more than the syringe.
Dermal fillers are gel-based products, usually made from manufactured hyaluronic acid, injected beneath the skin to fill out lines and reshape the face. They restore volume where creases and shadows have formed, and can lift and restructure facial contour. The body breaks the product down over time, and it can be dissolved if problems arise. Dermal filler treatment is available at Faciem Dermatology & Medical Clinic on Kensington Church St, London, where every plan is assessed, injected and reviewed by Dr Prasad.
What volume loss does to the shape of a face
A youthful face is characterised by smooth, round contours, high cheekbones, hollow jowls and a thin, well-defined jawline — features that together form what is often called the triangle of beauty, with its base at the top and its point below.
Age inverts that triangle. Facial fat is lost, gravity pulls, and the skin’s natural elasticity goes, so the forehead and temples narrow while the lower face and jawline widen and grow heavier. This is why filling a single line so rarely satisfies anyone. The crease you notice is usually the consequence of volume that has moved or gone, so filler is planned across the face, not crease by crease — nose-to-mouth lines and sagging along the jawline are the clearest examples.
Why the injector matters more than the syringe
Filler is a straightforward product and an unforgiving treatment. Where it is placed, at what depth, in what quantity and in which sequence across the face decides whether the result reads as rested or as done. Facial anatomy varies considerably between individuals, and the vessels and tissue planes involved are not optional knowledge.
At Faciem, dermal filler treatment is assessed, planned and injected by Dr Prasad, who has 20 years’ experience in dermatology and aesthetic medicine and is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Group. She prepares you for the treatment and answers your questions before anything is injected. She will also tell you when filler is not the answer to what is bothering you, and what would be.
What the treatment feels like
The treatment area is cleaned with an antiseptic and anaesthetic cream is applied before any injection. Several injections may be needed, depending on the area and the plan. Ice packs and skin vibration are both used at Faciem to reduce discomfort, and patients do not generally need local anaesthetic injections.
Afterwards an ice pack may be applied to settle swelling, and the area is massaged so the product distributes evenly. Most people find dermal filler treatment very tolerable, and any discomfort usually settles quickly. The appointment runs 45–60 minutes, much of it assessment and planning, and the change is visible straight away. You see it before you leave, though slight swelling means the settled result looks a little different a few days later.
The products used, and why the range matters
Faciem uses dermal fillers from Allergan, in the Juvéderm® range, using Vycross technology. Vycross stabilises the bonds between hyaluronic acid chains, which makes the product last longer. Within that range, VOLUMA®, VOLIFT and VOLUX® are used to restore facial balance and heart-shaped proportions, revolumising hollows and recontouring the cheeks, cheekbones and nose. The volumising product in particular helps recover facial volume diminished by age or weight loss.
The range exists because different parts of the face need gels of different firmness: what holds structure along a jawline does not belong in a lip. Volite is a skin booster within the same range, used to improve skin quality on the neck and décolletage and for very fine lines. Which product is chosen for you, and why it suits the area being treated, is explained before anything is injected — a named product on the consent form, never a syringe described only as premium.
What hyaluronic acid actually is
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps hydrate the skin and give it volume. Your own hyaluronic acid is broken down within a day or two and constantly replaced; with age that replacement mechanism diminishes, so the moisturising and plumping effect declines.
The hyaluronic acid used in filler is stabilised and cross-linked so it lasts for months instead of disappearing within days. Because it is a version of something the body already recognises, it is broken down naturally over time, and it can be dissolved if there are any problems. That reversibility is one reason hyaluronic acid became the standard material for facial work, and it is a fair question to put to any clinic proposing something else.
Dermal Filler Treatment Areas
Which Areas Can Dermal Fillers Treat?
Dermal fillers are planned by region, not line by line, because volume in one part of the face changes how the next part reads. At Faciem the whole face is assessed before any area is recommended. Suitability is confirmed at consultation, and results vary between individuals.
ZONE I
Mid Face
Where volume loss first changes the shape of the face, not just its surface.
Cheeks and Cheekbones
Restoring volume here recontours the cheeks and cheekbones and may recover the fullness that age and weight loss diminish. It is often what makes the rest of the face read differently.
Nose-to-Cheek Lines
The creases running from the nose towards the mouth are treated directly and, more often, by restoring the volume above them. Our page on nasolabial folds and nose-to-mouth lines covers the concern in more detail.
Facial Hollows
Hollowing that reads as a shadow, not a line, may be revolumised to restore the face’s balance and proportions. Where the hollow sits determines the approach.
Nose Contour
Recontouring the nose is among the uses described for the volumising products. It is a highly individual treatment and appropriate only for some patients — the alternatives are set out under non-surgical nose reshaping.
ZONE II
Lower Face
Structure and definition along the lower third, where volume loss reads as heaviness.
Chin
The chin is treated to restore projection and balance, including for a receding chin. The concern itself is explained on our chin projection and reshaping page.
Jawline
Definition along the jawline is a common request as the lower face widens with age. Where the jaw itself is the main concern, jawline contouring at Faciem sets out that approach separately.
ZONE III
Lips, Skin Quality & Whole Face
Finer work and full-face planning, where less product is usually the better answer.
Lips
Lip treatment is among the areas treated at Faciem. It is one of the most conservative decisions in filler work, and the plan is agreed in detail before anything is injected.
Very Fine Lines
Fine lines are addressed with a skin booster instead of a volumising gel. The aim is skin quality, not structure, so expectations are set accordingly.
Neck and Décolletage
A skin booster is used to improve skin quality across the neck and décolletage. The ageing that prompts it is described on our neck and chest ageing page.
Full-Face Revolumisation
Where volume loss is general, not local, the face is treated as a whole to restore its proportions. This is planned over one to three sessions.
Choosing the Right Treatment
Dermal Fillers vs Anti-Wrinkle Injections: What’s the Difference?
Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are the two most requested injectable treatments in London, and they solve different problems. Dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin to restore structure and soften creases visible even when your face is still. Anti-wrinkle injections work on the muscles that fold the skin when you move, a different kind of line entirely. Your consultation confirms which you need, or whether a combination suits you better.
| Dermal Fillers | Anti-Wrinkle Injections | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Hyaluronic acid gel is injected beneath the skin to fill out lines and reshape the face, restoring lost volume | Temporarily relaxes the small muscles that fold the skin during expression, without adding anything beneath it |
| Best for | Nose-to-cheek lines, cheeks, chin, jawline, lips and full-face revolumisation | Lines produced by repeated movement; the areas treated are set out on our anti-wrinkle injections page |
| Results appear | Straight away, during the appointment itself | Not immediate — the effect develops over the days after treatment; timings are confirmed at consultation |
| Results last | Around 18 months on average for the volumising product, varying with age, physiology, lifestyle, amount injected and technique | Maintained with repeat treatment; the interval is set out on the anti-wrinkle injections page and confirmed at consultation |
| Downtime | Usually minimal, though redness, bruising or swelling may occur; back to work the same day or the day after | A different procedure with a different recovery pattern, discussed at the consultation for that treatment |
| Ideal candidate | Someone with hollows, shadows or creases visible when the face is at rest, or who wants contour restored | Someone whose lines appear or deepen when they frown, squint or raise the brows |
Both are medical treatments and results vary. Dr Prasad advises honestly at consultation, including when neither is appropriate and when medical-grade skincare would serve you better.
Dermal Filler Prices London
How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost at Faciem?
Dermal filler treatment at Faciem starts from £200. What you pay beyond that depends on how many areas are treated and how much product the plan requires — one to three sessions are usually required, and full-face work costs more than a single area. The plan and the price are both confirmed at your consultation, in writing, before any treatment takes place.
Some candid advice on comparing filler prices in London. A very low price usually means one of three things: less product than the result needs, a product you have not been told the name of, or an injector who is not medically qualified. None of those is a saving. Ask which product, how much of it, who is injecting, and what happens if you are unhappy.
We would sooner you chose carefully than quickly. You can contact the Kensington clinic with questions before booking, and a consultation carries no obligation to proceed.

- Named hyaluronic acid products, so you know what is being injected

Experience & Expertise
Filler Planned and Injected by a Doctor
With filler, the outcome is decided by judgement more than by product. Two faces with the same complaint often need volume in different places, in different amounts, and sometimes need nothing injected at all. Reading which is which takes an understanding of facial anatomy, and of what to do in the uncommon event that something does not go to plan.
At Faciem Dermatology & Medical Clinic your treatment is assessed, planned and performed by Dr Prasad rather than delegated to a non-medical injector. That means a genuine medical consultation first, a full account of your previous aesthetic treatments so products are not layered blindly, honest advice on suitability and alternatives, and a clinician who is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Group.

Your Journey, Our Promise
How a Dermal Filler Appointment Works, Step by Step
Filler is planned once and injected in stages, so the sequence below matters as much as the product. One to three sessions are usually required, and the whole plan is agreed at the start.
STEP 01
Facial Assessment
Dr Prasad looks at your face as a structure: where volume has been lost, how that has changed your proportions, and whether the line bothering you is a volume problem at all. She also asks what has been injected before and when, because that changes what is appropriate now.
STEP 02
Your Filler Plan
You leave the consultation knowing which areas are proposed, which hyaluronic acid product suits each of them, the order they are treated in, and the cost in writing. If skincare or a different treatment would serve you better, you are told that instead.
STEP 03
Injection Appointment
The area is cleaned with an antiseptic and anaesthetic cream is applied. Several injections may be needed, with ice packs and skin vibration used for comfort. Appointments run 45–60 minutes, and the change in contour is visible as you sit up.
STEP 04
Settling & Review
An ice pack may be applied and the treated area massaged so the product distributes evenly. Most people return to work the same day or the day after. Swelling and any bruising are most obvious on days one and two, settle over three to five days, and the contour reads true at around two weeks — which is the point to judge it. A review appointment can be arranged, with its timing and any charge confirmed when you are treated.
Side Effects & Safety
How Safe Are Dermal Fillers? An Honest Answer
Dermal fillers are a medical treatment, and how safe yours is depends heavily on who assesses and injects you, and on what they know about your history. Careful injection technique minimises bruising and swelling, but it is the consultation beforehand — your medical history, your allergies, what has already been injected — that does most of the work.
Common, temporary effects
- Redness at the injected area
- Slight swelling, which an ice pack may help reduce
- Bruising, more likely if you take aspirin or anticoagulant medicine
- Short-lived tenderness that usually settles quickly after treatment
Uncommon effects
- These effects do not last and can generally be covered with your usual make-up. Less commonly, filler can produce a result that needs adjusting, or a complication that needs treating — and one practical advantage of hyaluronic acid is that it can be dissolved if there are any problems. Careful technique, a full history and conservative placement are what keep these uncommon. Anything unexpected should be reported to the clinic straight away, not waited out.
Who dermal fillers are not for
- Contraindications apply to this type of treatment generally, not to one product. Tell us about any auto-immune disease, allergies, known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, any tendency to develop hypertrophic scars, immune treatment, and any inflammatory or infectious complaint such as acne or a cold sore at the intended injection site, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Suitability is decided individually once Dr Prasad has reviewed your history.
Dermal Filler Aftercare
Before and After Your Dermal Filler Treatment
Preparation matters as much as aftercare with filler, because the main avoidable problem is bruising and most of what reduces it happens before you arrive. The arc afterwards is short: swelling and any bruising are at their most obvious on days one and two, settle over roughly three to five days, and the contour reads true at about two weeks. You are given personalised advice on the day; these are the general principles.
Do
- Tell us the date of every previous aesthetic treatment, including anything injected in the past two years
- Tell us about any blood-thinning medicine at least a week before treatment, so the plan accounts for it
- Use a cool pack for 10 minutes at a time over the first 24 hours if the area feels swollen
- Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised for the first two nights
- Ring the clinic the same day if the area blanches, whitens or becomes more painful after 48 hours
Avoid
- Aspirin and anti-inflammatory painkillers for three days before treatment, where it is medically safe to stop them
- Alcohol for 24 hours before and 24 hours after treatment, as it thins the blood and makes bruising more likely
- Pressing, rubbing or manipulating the treated area yourself for 48 hours after injection
- Saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and strenuous exercise for 48 hours, as heat and blood flow worsen swelling
- Facials, skin treatments and non-urgent dental work over the treated area for two weeks afterwards
This is general guidance only and does not replace the personalised medical aftercare advice given at your appointment. Never stop a prescribed anticoagulant on your own — tell us you take one instead, as the bruising risk is higher. Redness, slight swelling or bruising at the injected area are common and usually settle within three to five days.
Dermal Filler FAQs
Your Questions, Answered
Filler consultations throw up the same dozen questions, so here they are, answered in full. If yours is missing, bring it with you.
How much do dermal fillers cost in London?
Dermal filler treatment at Faciem starts from £200. The final cost depends on how many areas are treated and how much product your plan requires, and it is confirmed in writing at consultation before anything goes ahead. One to three sessions are usually required, so ask about the cost of the whole plan and not just the first appointment.
How long do dermal fillers last?
The average effect of the volumising dermal filler is around 18 months. It may be shorter or longer depending on your age, your physiology, your lifestyle — smoking and sun or UV exposure may shorten it — the amount injected and the practitioner’s technique. How long the product chosen for your plan is expected to last is confirmed at your consultation.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
Most people tolerate dermal filler injections well and describe a brief sting as the needle enters, then a firm pressure as the gel is placed. Anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left to work before any injection, and ice packs and skin vibration are both used at Faciem to reduce discomfort. Patients do not generally need local anaesthetic injections. Any tenderness afterwards usually settles within a day or two.
When will I see results from dermal fillers?
Dermal filler results are visible straight away, during the appointment itself. The effect is immediate and generally looks natural. Any slight swelling settles over the first three to five days and the contour reads true at about two weeks, so the final appearance differs a little from what you see as you leave the clinic. Results vary between individuals.
Am I suitable for dermal fillers?
Suitability for dermal fillers depends on your facial structure, your goals and your medical history. Tell us about auto-immune disease, allergies, hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, a tendency to hypertrophic scarring, immune treatment, any infection at the injection site, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dr Prasad assesses all of this face to face before any treatment.
Can I wear make-up after dermal fillers?
Leave the injection points free of make-up for 12 hours after dermal filler treatment, then wear it as normal. The entry points are tiny but still closing during that first half-day, and clean skin keeps the small infection risk smaller. After 12 hours, mineral make-up applied with a clean brush covers redness or a bruise well — pat it on rather than rubbing, and keep firm pressure off the treated area for the first 48 hours.
Can I exercise after dermal fillers?
Leave strenuous exercise for 48 hours after dermal filler treatment. Raised blood pressure, heat and a flushed face all make swelling and bruising more pronounced, and lying face down on a mat or bench presses on product that has not yet settled. Gentle walking on the day is fine. Saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga wait the same 48 hours. If you train most days, book an evening appointment so the rest falls overnight.
Can men have dermal fillers?
Yes. Dermal fillers are planned around the individual face, and male and female facial proportions differ in ways that change where volume should and should not go. A plan that ignores that is how results start looking generic. Where volume is added, and how much, is discussed and agreed at consultation before any treatment.
Can dermal fillers be dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are broken down by the body over time, and they can be dissolved if there are any problems. That reversibility is one reason hyaluronic acid became the standard material for facial treatment. Tell us about any long-lasting or non-dissolvable product injected elsewhere, as it changes what is appropriate for you.
How many filler sessions will I need?
One to three dermal filler sessions are usually required, depending on the areas being treated and how much volume has been lost. Full-face work is generally staged across appointments and not done in one sitting. The expected number of sessions is agreed at consultation, so the plan is not extended as treatment goes along.
When can I return to work after fillers?
Most people return to work and normal activities the same day or the day after dermal filler treatment. Downtime is usually minimal, though redness, bruising or swelling may occur. If you have a wedding, a holiday or anything photographed coming up, mention it at consultation so treatment can be timed with room to spare.
What are the side effects of dermal fillers?
The common side effects of dermal fillers are redness, slight swelling and bruising at the injected area, which usually settle within three to five days and can be covered with your usual make-up after the first 12 hours. Bruising is more likely if you take aspirin or anticoagulant medicine, which is why we ask about both beforehand. Report anything unexpected — blanching, severe pain, or an area worsening after 48 hours — to the clinic the same day rather than waiting to see.
Dermal Fillers in Kensington, London
A Doctor-Led Clinic in the Heart of Kensington
Dermal filler treatment is available at Faciem Dermatology & Medical Clinic on Kensington Church St, at the High Street Kensington end of the road. The station is a few minutes’ walk, Notting Hill Gate around ten, and Kensington council underground parking sits close by. Most patients come from Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill, Knightsbridge and Holland Park; others travel across London for injectable work carried out by a doctor.
Appointments run 45–60 minutes and the clinic is open Monday to Saturday, 10am–7pm, so filler can be fitted around a working week. Because bruising is possible, leave room in the diary before a wedding, a holiday or anything photographed — timing is the one part of filler treatment entirely within your control.
Comparing filler clinics in London? Four questions sort them quickly. Which product is being injected, and how much of it? Who is holding the syringe, and are they registered with the GMC, NMC or GDC? Is the consultation face to face, and on a different day from the treatment if you want it that way? And what happens, including what dissolving involves, if you are unhappy with the result? A clinic that answers all four without hesitation has told you something useful.
Unsure whether filler is what you need, or whether the concern is volume at all? Book a consultation with no obligation to proceed. Dr Prasad will assess your facial proportions, explain the alternatives, and give an honest recommendation.
